1945 Macclesfield since 1945

A family name, woven into Macclesfield

Founded by Denis William Spearing and his wife Margaret, Spearings has been part of this town for 80 years. Four generations later, the values haven't changed: honest produce, proper craft, and real relationships with every customer.

Our Heritage

From £100 and a single counter.

Denis returned from the Second World War - he'd served in the elite Airborne Division, parachuting into France as part of the Red Berets - and put down £100 to open a butcher's shop on Cross Street. That single counter became a cornerstone of Macclesfield.

The family soon expanded to farming their own livestock at Kinderfield's Farm in Sutton, bringing a true farm-to-counter approach that remains at the heart of the business today.

"The good news is I've finally had a Spearings pork pie and I'm happier than I have any right to be."

The family rallies together

When Marshall is diagnosed with acute Myeloid Leukaemia, his wife and daughters Rachael, Sarah, and Emma step in to keep the business going. They form Spearings Limited and carry the family name into its fourth generation.

2021

Remembering Marshall

After a courageous fight and a successful bone marrow transplant in 2018 that brought him back to the counter he loved, Marshall sadly passed away in 2021. His legacy lives on in every part of the business his family continues to run.

Today

80 years and still going strong

Still family-run, still at 12 Park Green, and still making the pies, sourcing the meat, and giving the service that Macclesfield has trusted for eight decades.
